First edition. Inscribed: "To Charles Lucas -- / In hope that this will / recall pleasant thoughts / of the [--] -- / Edward E. Smith, Ph. D." Octavo. 303, [1] pages. Full-page illustration at verso of title-page. Publisher's full light blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front gilt-stamped with publisher's device; all edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine a touch skewed; bit of discoloration at base of spine; ripple to backstrip; mild rubbing and soiling to boards; minor shelf wear at extremities of binding. Normal age toning to edges and interior of text block. Edge wear with a bit of paper loss at spine and flap fold ends of jacket; minor rubbing and soiling at exposed panels. Slight rubbing and discoloration at verso. Near fine.
