First edition. Association copy, inscribed to Mary Gnaedinger on tipped-in leaf. Octavo. [10], 257, [1, blank] pages (note: inscription leaf inserted between title and dedication leaves). Frontispiece and two additional inserted plates by A. J. Donnell; decorated initials. Publisher's full light blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt; all edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine ends just a touch pushed and discolored; fleck or two of soiling to boards; touch of shelf wear along bottom edges; top edges a bit dusty. Normal age tanning to edges and interior of text block; top edge very slightly dust-soiled. Wear at spine ends; a touch of rubbing to exposed panels; two short tears at bottom edge of rear panel; soft creasing at flap folds. Near fine. Currey, p. 457. Publisher's full light blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt; all edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Chipping at head of spine panel, not affecting any text, with backstrip just a shade sunned; general rubbing and soiling to exposed panels; some soft creasing resulting in loss to surface of paper at flap folds with some paper loss at ends, front flap fold with short tear toward middle and small splits starting from booth ends; some rumpling to top edges of flaps, soft vertical crease to front flap. Typical age tanning to edges and interior of text block; top edge slightly dust-soiled. Spine panel of jacket just a shade sunned, slight chipping along top edge; rubbing and soiling to exposed panels; flap folds creased, short split starting at top end of front flap.
