Description

Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan of the Apes. Chicago: A. C. McClurg & Co., 1914. First edition, with all first state points. Octavo. [8], 400, [1, remainder of text], [5, blanks] pages. Publisher's dark red cloth, spine and front lettered in gilt, front with blind-stamped double-ruled border; all text block edges trimmed; facsimile dust jacket. Binding overall rather worn, particularly at spine ends, joints, and board edges, with slight loss to gilt stamping at spine and a moderate amount of soiling to boards; bottom edges of boards lightly worn with a couple of small bumps. Endpapers foxed, previous owner inking at front pastedown. Text block dulled; top edge soiled; marginal spot-soiling and staining throughout, with evidence of dog-earing; several gutters over-opened, causing a few gatherings to be sprung. Good. Zeuschner, p. 424-425.
