First edition, association copy, inscribed by the author for Forrest Ackerman on the front free endpaper: "To my old friend / Forrie Ackerman / No. 1 Science-Fiction / authority + enthusiast / Edmond Hamilton." Octavo (7.125 x 4.875 inches, 181 x 123 mm.). 256 pages. Publisher's cloth, green variant, spine lettered and ruled in black; all edges of the text block trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Backstrip dulled just a shade; spine ends faintly worn, with bottom gently pushed; light shelf wear; corners very slightly bent. Text block mildly tanned; bottom corner of the leaf with pages 117-118 creased prior to trimming, leaving an accidental témoin; two short tears to the fore-edge of the leaf with pages 249-250; endpapers very faintly discolored with a couple negligible fox marks at the front; tiny tear to the fore-edge of the rear pastedown with some very minor crimping. Dust jacket edges somewhat worn with a some minor nicks at the spine and fold ends and few short closed tears, slightly longer tear at the bottom of the rear panel fold with an old cellophane tape mend on the verso; spine panel with a very soft crease in the middle of the upper third; general light soiling. Ackerman's dark red embossing tape label ("A") in the upper margin of the spine panel. An attractive copy of book seldom seen in nice condition. Very good. Part of the Creeps series. Anatomy of Wonder (1987) 2-41 ("One of the earliest collections of pulp SF stories"); Currey p. 178.
