    Description

Winsor McCay Gertie the Dinosaur Animation Drawing (Winsor McCay, 1914). Original pen and ink artwork from the hand of Winsor McCay, used to create the landmark animated short. Gertie was animation's first superstar, and McCay drew each individual scene on rice paper, by hand. This was before the use of acetate or nitrate cels began, and was, at the time, considered state-of-the-art production! The production drawing is #378, mounted on board and matted with an image area of 8" x 6" (actual paper size is approximately 9" x 7"). This is a nice, clean-lined image of Gertie, turning to look, as another prehistoric creature flies by. It is incredibly rare to find original Gertie art with any other creatures in it, with her! Also known as Gertie the Trained Dinosaur, this cartoon was ranked #6 in in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. A piece of pure animation history! Glass front framed to 12.75" x 10.75", it has slipped in the frame slightly. In Very Good condition with very minor stains....
