    Winsor McCay Gertie the Dinosaur Animation Drawing Original Art (1914). "Gertie will now show that she isn't afraid of me and take me for a ride." Gertie then walks up to an animated Winsor McCay, picks him up with her mouth and places him on her back for a ride. This is an outstanding and important piece of inked artwork from the hand of Winsor McCay (1869-1934), used to create the landmark animated short, Gertie the Dinosaur. McCay drew each individual scene on rice paper by hand; this was before the use of nitrate or acetate cel use began. Gertie, the subject of McCay's third cartoon, was animation's first superstar. This film premiered on February 8, 1914 at the Palace Theater in Chicago. The cartoon is ranked #6 in Jerry Beck's book The 50 Greatest Cartoons. This historic piece can be found in the film around the 8:05 mark. Art is in ink on 9" x 7" rice paper and framed to 13.5" x 11.5" with a matboard aperture of 8" x 6". Frame sold as-is. This animation art is over 100 years old! Overall condition is Very Good.
