Description
Wimmin Hadn't Oughta Drive Popeye Production Background (Max Fleischer, 1940). "Oh Popeye, learn me to drive!" Well, maybe this particular woman shouldn't be behind the wheel! Popeye has his hands full trying to teach Olive Oyl how to drive his new "super-duper streamlined special" car, in this black and white Dave Fleischer-directed short. This was the 85th Popeye cartoon produced by the Fleischer Studios; it was released on 8/16/1940. Here is an original hand-painted background used in the making of this short. See it at the 5:31 mark, as Olive is stuck in the runaway vehicle, winding around some very dangerous curves! The art is in ink and gray wash with a bit of white paint on trimmed paper that has been mounted to board measuring 11.5" x 9.5". It's floated in a mat with an opening of 12.5" x 10.5", and framed using Plexiglas for an overall frame size of 19.5" x 17.5". A screen grab print of the scene is included on back. Frame is sold as-is. Art condition is Very Good, with minor handling and edge wear.More information about Fleischer Studios. See also: Max Fleischer, Fleischer, Max Artist.
