When Magoo Flew Mr. Magoo Pan Production Cel and Background (UPA, 1954). This short was the first made by UPA for the Cinemascope wide screen format. Directed by Pete Burness, it won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in 1954. Magoo mistakes an airport for a movie theater, boards the plane, and thinks he's seeing a 3-D film! This is an original production cel of Magoo with plane passengers (including a member of "Spook Jones and his Gone Ghouls"), placed over an outstanding hand-painted master pan background of the plane. The background is approximately 30" x 10" and marked 5/50-42 BG Sc in the lower right corner. Magoo is 2.5", while the passengers are 3" to 4". A slight cel bend through the bass case and pinholes in the background corners, otherwise Fine. A similar image was used in Adam Abraham's book, When Magoo Flew -- the Rise and Fall of Animation Studio UPA. From the Pete Burness Archive.
