What's Opera, Doc Background Layout/Concept Art by Maurice Noble (Warner Brothers, 1957). "Kill da wabbit?" Fantastic layout/background concept artwork from the hand of Maurice Noble. This is for the scene where Bugs and Elmer are in the ballet sequence, at about the 3:59 mark in to the short. This cartoon was voted the #1 Cartoon in the Jerry Beck book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons. It was also the first cartoon voted into the National Film Registry for Preservation in 1992. Graphite on 5-peghole animation paper (Maurice must have kept Disney paper in his personal inventory). The art image measures 5" x 7", with red layout square. This historic piece is hand-signed by Maurice Noble (1911-2000) in bottom right. Mr. Noble has stated that the design motifs for this short were inspired in part by the Kimberly Crest Mansion in Redlands, California. He lived in that area as a child. A true piece of animation history! Fine condition. From the Maurice Noble Archives.
