DescriptionWalt Disney World Mickey Mouse Tomorrowland Concept art Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 2001). In this lot are three original concept drawings in progression of a proposed update to Mickey Mouse for Disney World's Tomorrowland attraction. Included is the final presentation art along with two early concept/development sketches presented to Disney buyers at their Main Gate complex in Orlando. The drawings are by renowned industrial designer Eric Holman and were created as a pitch to Disney by a licensed vendor of the studio. The pitch was eventually scrapped and these are the only drawings from that presentation to survive. The first of the three is the final concept piece shown to studio marketing executives. It's a spectacular work of art in ink and colored pencil on 22.5" x 32" grey crescent board. Mickey stands 27" tall in a moonscape setting with Space Mountain in the distance. It is a striking image that you will not see anywhere else. The second drawing is a technical rendering in graphite on 10" x 14" board. Mickey stands 13" tall and has assorted designer notes to his right. It is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Third is the initial rough concept of Mickey in a spacesuit with a lightly rendered Space Mountain in the distance. It is in graphite with marker and white pencil. Mickey stands approximately 18.5" tall on a brown sheet of paper that measures 19" x 24". The top left corner has been trimmed off and the artist has signed the piece in the bottom right. All three make for a fascinating look into the progression in concept development. All show minor handling with light stains and smudges. The final presentation piece shows slight moisture damage in the upper left corner that is not very noticeable. Condition for the lot is Very Good.
