Virgil Ross - Egghead Illustration (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). A rare drawing of the early Merrie Melodies character Egghead, who appeared in a small handful of WB cartoons in 1937-38, directed by Tex Avery. Egghead was partially inspired by radio comic Joe Penner; his character eventually evolved into Elmer Fudd, and Egghead disappeared from the screen. Egghead was often animated by Virgil Ross, who was part of Tex Avery's unit, before moving on to Bob Clampett and Friz Freleng during his long association with Warners. Mr. Ross was an award-winning animator that became famous in the 1990s for a series of limited edition cels that were quickly sold out at Warner Bros. stores and animation galleries. This drawing by Mr. Ross is on a sheet of 12 field animation paper, nicely filling the page with an image size of 9.75". Fine condition. Signed in the lower right.
