DescriptionVirgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Umpire Baseball-Themed Pan Drawing Original Art (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s).
"Yer OUT!" "Safe!" "Out!" "Safe!" You know what happens next -- Bugs will switch to "Out!" and the Gas-House Gorilla umpire will call out "Safe!" This classic bit from Baseball Bugs (1946) has been faithfully recreated in this drawing by one of the original animators of the cartoon, Virgil Ross (1907 - 1996). Mr. Ross was well known for his action and dance sequences, as well as his funny facial expressions. Several of the cartoons he worked on were nominated for Academy Awards, and Mr. Ross himself was given the prestigious Winsor McCay Award in 1988. He spent time at several other studios, most notably Hanna-Barbera and Filmation. Mr. Ross began releasing hand-painted Limited Edition cels of his famous Looney Tunes scenes as part of the "Master's Collection" cels sold at Warner Bros. Studio Stores and animation galleries. This signed piece has the same image as a long sold-out limited edition called "Yer Out." It's drawn on a pan animation sheet measuring 24" x 10.5" with images running (literally!) throughout. The Umpire image measures about 7.5". Overall condition is Fine.
