DescriptionVirgil Ross - Bugs Bunny and Gossamer Drawing (Warner Brothers, c. 1990s). "My, I bet you monsters lead inn-teresting lives!" Bugs pulls a fast one on tennis shoe-wearing monster Gossamer, in this delightful scene inspired by the 1946 Chuck Jones-directed theatrical short, Hare-Raising Hare. This was the first cartoon appearance of the big orange-colored, easily-fooled creature, who went unnamed here; he was the pet monster of an evil scientist (a caricature of Peter Lorre) who lures Bugs in as Gossamer's dinner. This fun drawing was created by longtime Warner Brothers animator, Virgil Ross, known for his action and dance sequences and funny facial expressions. Several of the cartoons he worked on were nominated for Academy Awards, and Mr. Ross himself was given the prestigious Winsor McCay Award in 1988. He spent time at several other studios, most notably Hanna-Barbera and Filmation. Mr. Ross began releasing hand-painted Limited Edition cels of his famous Looney Tunes scenes as part of the "Master's Collection" cels sold at Warner Bros. Studio Stores and animation galleries. This signed piece is drawn on 12 field animation paper, with a combined image area of 11" x 8.5". Fine condition. "Now let's dip our paddies in the water!"
