    Description

Victory Through Airpower Gun Stations Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1943). Walt Disney Studios released its feature length World War II propaganda film on 9/17/43. It was based on the book Victory Through Airpower by Major Alexander de Seversky. Walt Disney read this book and was so impressed by the message that he rushed this film to market in a mere 14 months. This is an outstanding 16 field hand-painted production background of the "pillbox" gun stations on the shores of France. It is marked Seq. 02.0 Scenes 4.2 and 5.1, with extensive studio stamps on back. Minor handling wear, tape on the border, and tiny tear in the middle of the bottom of the background. A "Return to Art Props Stamp" is also on the reverse. Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
