Description

Trigger Joe Production Background (First Motion Picture Unit, c. 1940). Offered in this lot is a fantastic hand-painted production background showcasing a hangar and runway on a small island, believed to be from the Military institutional film Trigger Joe. Centered on the titular charismatic and relatable character voiced by the great Mel Blanc, this series debuted with the 1944 short "Position Firing," which explained the intricacies of aerial gunnery in simple terms. The cartoon was a huge success with instructors and students and was later planned to appear in a series to explain theory and techniques further. This background is rendered in gouache and ink on 12-field three-peghole background board. Pinholes can be seen on the top corners. In Very Good condition with light handling and edge wear from production.
From the Mike Glad Museum Collection.
