    Description

Touché and Go Pepe Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat Production Cel (Warner Brothers, 1957). That stinker Pepe Le Pew has cornered Penelope Pussycat again in this hand-inked, hand-painted production cel in 12 field, 3-peghole format. It is very rare to find 50's Looney Tunes cels of this character, doubly so for one featuring Pepe and the object of his affection on the same cel layer! This Chuck Jones-directed, Mike Maltese-written short was released on October 10th, 1957. This underwater scene has several bubble effects. The characters, in scuba masks and flippers, measure 8" x 5.5". With the bubble effects, the scene measures 8.5" x 8". There is paint separation throughout and paint loss in several places on this very rare cel. In Fair to Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
