Description

Toonerville Trolley Production Cel and Key Master Background Setup (Van Beuren-RKO, 1936). Burt Gillett and Tom Palmer left Disney to join Van Buren Studios, whose cartoons were distributed by RKO-Radio Pictures. This is the studio that did the original Tom & Jerry cartoons -- which were actually different characters from MGM's better known cat-and-mouse team of Tom & Jerry. This is an extremely rare original, hand-inked, hand-painted full nitrate production cel of a bull in its fighting corner of a corral, arrayed like a boxing ring. The cel rests upon its hand-painted Key Master production background. (In the finished cartoon short, this image appears at about the 5:34 mark.) This cartoon was promoted as "Burt Gillett's Rainbow Parade Cartoon featuring Fontaine Fox's Toonerville Trolley," adapted from a famous newspaper strip. The short was directed by Gillett and Palmer. Great image of 6". Numbered 24 at upper right. It bears repeating that this rarity is a full nitrate sheet. The background is marked in the right-hand side margin as "Sc23 & 25." Overall dimensions on this historic find is 10" x 13". In Fine condition.
