    Description

Tom Wood Good Housekeeping May 1939 "Goofy and Wilbur" Illustration Original Art (Good Housekeeping, 1939). "What are ya... Goofy?" A truly impressive and lovely piece of original artwork featuring Goofy and his grasshopper friend Wilbur. It was used in the May 1939 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine on the Disney page. Tom Wood painted scenes from the short upon which this was based, to recreate images that almost perfectly match the short released on 3/17/39. That short was Goofy's first solo role and is well-remembered by his fans, and considered one of Goofy's greatest hits! Consisting of five separate paintings, four of these spot illustrations feature Goofy and Wilbur in them, while one is Wilbur trapped by a school of hungry fish. Goofy's "Man o' War" row boat is in two of the illustrations. Produced in gouache on board, it is matted with apertures to frame out the black areas where text would go. The total image area is 19" x 25.5" in the 27" x 33" Plexiglas front frame. There are slight stains in some panels, with a small bit of graphite smudging. Overall in Very Good condition.
