Description
Tom Scherman's Large Nautilus 2 Maquette model based on Harper Goff's design. (ca. 1990s) Tom Scherman is affectionately known as the world's greatest fan of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; he was known for not only building wonderful miniatures of the Nautilus, but also for working for WED, the Disney parks maintenance company, and supervised the construction of the full-sized Nautilus at EuroDisney. Tom Scherman and Harper Goff were close friends, and when Harper told Tom about his "Nautilus 2" design, Tom Scherman could not wait to build a huge 3D model out of Harper Goff's plans and renderings. Tom did the model in the early 1990's. Constructed of resin and artfully painted to appear weathered by the elements. This extremely detailed model even includes miniature crew members operating the sub. On a wooden base with a Giant Squid. This is the only model of Goff's "Nautilus 2" ever created. Measures 60 x 18 x 15 in. In vintage fine condition.Auction Info
