Tom and Jerry "The Milky Waif" Preliminary Background Attributed to Robert Gentle (MGM, 1946). This outstanding preliminary background was created for the opening scene of "The Milky Waif", the 1946 short that introduced Jerry's nephew Nibbles, a perpetually hungry baby mouse that was dropped on his doorstep. Preliminary backgrounds like this were created to test the atmosphere of a scene before the final detailed background was created. The backgrounds in the short were created by Robert Gentle (1914 - 1988). This preliminary background is attributed to him and is perfect for a cel setup! The final version of this test can be found at about 0:25. The final, like this beautiful gouache background, features a warm summer night with a light illuminating Jerry's door at the back of the house. The test is rendered on background board and measures about 13.5'' x 10'' is noted for Scene 1 of Production 142 with a studio production stamp. Very Good condition with minor edge and handling wear, light age-related toning, faint stains, and pinholes from studio use.Auction Info
