DescriptionThumbelina Production Cel and Master Background (Don Bluth, 1994). "And here the fairy prince and princess are having a wedding!" "And they live happily ever after!" "(chuckles) Usually, dear." "I suppose it's best if two people are the same size..." Thumbelina begins to wish she was normal-sized toward the end of the first act of Thumbelina, in which she and her mother read a fairy tale together. Directed by the legendary Don Bluth, Thumbelina tells the story of a girl born from a flower and her journey to self-acceptance. This stunning setup features the titular character hand-painted at 2" x 5.25" on the original production cel, and the cel is trimmed to image. It is mounted on a gorgeous hand-painted master background seen at the 8:25 mark of the film. The film's lead background artists were Barry Atkinson, Emil Mitev and Raymond Zibach, and the signature of additional background painter Greg Gibbons can be seen below the painting. Additionally, it is noteworthy to mention that this background likely bears Don Bluth's initials in the lower right corner. The cel and background show minor handling wear, and the condition of the piece is Very Good.
