The Wizard of Oz Theme Park Statue Maquette (Landmark Entertainment c. 1980s). The Wizard of Oz is celebrating its 80th birthday in 2019. This historic film was originally released on 8/25/39. The film was set to inspire its own 60-plus acres theme park in Kansas in the 1990s, a major theme park to be developed by Landmark Entertainment, totally built around The Wizard of Oz movie. It was to be surrounded by a golf course, retail shops, and a major hotel. World-renown sculpture Phillip Jackson was commissioned to do a life-size sculpture that would be placed at the entrance to the proposed theme park. Philip Jackson is an award-winning Scottish sculptor, the Royal Sculptor to Queen Elizabeth II. His life-size sculptures can be seen in cities around the UK as well as in Argentina and Sweden. They include sculptures of Mahatma Gandhi, athlete Bobby Moore, Mozart, and Constantine the Great, to name a few. This is a bronze maquette that was prototype for the life-size sculpture that was to be done for the Theme Park. Only two were said to have been made. This detailed bronze of Dorothy, The Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, running among the poppy field is 41" high, 21" deep. This may be one of the rarest Wizard of Oz pieces outside the original movies props. Overall condition is Very Good. This lot will need to ship from Dallas to the winning bidder.
