The Unicorn in the Garden/Christopher Crumpet Production Cel Setup (UPA, 1953). "There's a unicorn in the garden eating roses!" says the husband to his nagging wife. This is the UPA cartoon that was based on the James Thurber short story that first appeared in the New Yorker on 10/21/39. It was directed by Bill Hurtz and released on 9/24/53. This is a rare hand-inked, hand-painted 12 field production cel setup of the Unicorn eating the roses in the garden. You can see this in the short around the 1:39 mark. Added to the Unicorn is a cel of the father character from another UPA cartoon, Christopher Crumpet (1953). Nice images, with images of 4" and 8". The 2-cel setup is on a print that reads in bottom right corner, "Original by UPA." Cels of this era from UPA's high point are very rare and desirable. Cels are in a mat measuring 20" x 16" with an opening of 12" x 9.5". Staples in corners of the two cels. Very Good condition.
