    Description

The Tortoise and the Hare Max Hare Production Cel and Key Master Production Background (Walt Disney, 1935). This Silly Symphony short introduced Toby Tortoise and Max Hare. The short was directed by Wilfred Jackson and was released on 1/5/35. It went on to win the Academy Award for Best Cartoon Short. Here is an outstanding hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Max jumping the tennis net as he plays tennis against himself to impress the adoring girl bunnies watching him. The cel is on its Key Master hand-painted production background. You can see this scene around the 6:56 mark into the short. Beautiful gouache painting on background board. Bottom border notes read "Sc 43/45 Max Jumps Net." A Key Master setup from an Academy Award-winning theatrical short from this era is super rare. Setup is in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 21.5" x 18.5" with a mat opening of 11" x 9". Max jumping over the net is 5" in movement terms. Frame is sold as-is, cel and background art are in Very Good condition.
