    The Tortoise and the Hare Baseball Diamond Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1935). "I was just warming up... here's a better trick!" says Max Hare to his adoring fans as he proceeds to pitch a baseball, hit the baseball, and then catch the same baseball to showcase his speed. This short begins with the hanging banner that reads "Big Race -- Tortoise vs Hare!" This is an original hand-painted 12 field production background from the baseball trick scene, at about 6:30 into the short. This Silly Symphony short was directed by Wilfred Jackson and released on 1/5/35. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. This beautiful background painting of home plate (turned the wrong way!) is painted in gouache on 12 field 2-peghole animation board. Extremely rare! Minor handling and edge wear. Studio stamps in bottom border. Very Good condition, with vibrant colors!
