DescriptionThe Simpsons "22 Short Films About Springfield" Apu Production Cel Title Card (Fox, 1996). "For the next 5 minutes I'm going to party like it's on sale for $19.99." In this anthology episode that focused primarily on the backstories of some of Springfield's most beloved supporting characters, Apu's story "The Jolly Bengali" reveals all that can be achieved within a 5-minute break from the Kwik-E-Mart. Offered here is the original title card from the 1:34 mark in season 7 episode 21 of television's longest running series. The hand-painted image measures 6.5 x 4.5" on a 12 field cel that bears a fox seal in the lower left corner. It is a single held image and as such a truly one-of-a-kind setup. It was released through Fox Studio's exclusive "Collector's Portfolio" program. Following the initial limited release of production art at a New York auction in 1992, The Simpsons Animation Art Program began releasing 100 unique production setups from the Fox archives each year that the show was animated using cels. These unique production setups represent some the finest and rarest Simpson production art available today. As many Simpson fans know, Apu became a controversial character being the focus of the documentary The Problem with Apu in which the character is critiqued as too stereotypical. As a result, producers considered removing him, but creator Matt Groening ultimately decided that Apu, a favorite of Simpsons fans everywhere, would remain in the show. The art is in a 21" x 18" frame under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 11" x 18". Condition is Fine and the frame is sold as-is.
