Description

The Ruff and Reddy Show Reddy, Professor Gizmo, and Ruff Production Cel and Master Painted Background (Hanna-Barbera, 1958). This first Hanna-Barbera TV series premiered on 12/14/57 on NBC. It featured Don Messick and Daws Butler as the voices of the cat and dog team Ruff and Reddy. This is a trimmed hand-inked, hand-painted production cel of Ruff, Reddy, and Professor Gizmo hanging on a rope on the Chicasaurus. This is from the 12/27/58 episode, "Chicasaurus Choo Choo!" The cel is on an extremely rare Master hand-painted production cel of the extinct volcano they will later be lowered into. They are being followed by the bad guys Killer and Diller in this episode. You first see the cel at about the :40 mark and the background comes in around 1:52. In this 60th birthday year of Hanna-Barbera, this is a very important piece of the studio's history. Trimmed to 9" x 10". Tape on border, otherwise Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
