The Practical Pig Big Bad Wolf Storyboard Drawing by Ferdinand Horvath (Walt Disney, 1939). In Didier Ghez's great book They Drew As They Pleased - The Hidden Art of Disney's Golden Age (1930s), he writes about Ferdinand Horvath (1891 - 1973): "In his first few months at Disney, Ferdinand quickly became a jack-of-all- trades, tackling layouts, animation, gag drawings, book illustration, etc." This is a rare and outstanding Ferdinand Horvath hand-drawn storyboard/concept art piece of the Big Bad Wolf, disguised as a Mermaid. The Big Bad Wolf dresses up in all four of his cartoon short appearances, to trick Fiddler and Fifer Pig and capture them. It is here he will capture the two pigs swimming nearby. The storyboard is signed on the bottom as Horvath. Artwork is in graphite with Conte crayon/colored pencil, in a Plexiglas-front frame measuring 16" x 15" with a mat opening of 7" x 6". Nice overall image of the Wolf, with a size of 5". Disney Horvath original artwork is considered very rare. Frame is sold as-is, artwork has minor handling. Good condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
