The Old Mill Layout Painting by Maurice Noble Original Art (Walt Disney, 1937). This Academy Award-winning Silly Symphony introduced the use of Disney's multi-plane camera and served as a testing ground for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It also benefited from the artistic contributions of young background artist, Maurice Noble (1911 -- 2001). Before teaming up with Chuck Jones at Warner Brothers, Mr. Noble began his animation career in 1934 as a background painter at Walt Disney Studios. Presented is an original 5" x 4" background Color Key/concept drawing by Maurice Noble of the Old Mill rendered in Conté and watercolor on 9.5" x 7.5" paperboard. The art is signed by the artist on the front and back. You can see this one-of-a-kind piece on page 19 of Tod Polson's book The Noble Approach: Maurice Noble and the Zen of Animation Design. This is a masterpiece from the early stages of an Oscar-winning Disney short by one of animation's most revered artists. Minor handling and condition is Very Good.
