The Nightmare Before Christmas Santa and Jack Skellington Storyboard Drawing by Jorgen Klubien (Touchstone/Walt Disney, 1993). Here's a piece of original storyboard artwork from the early stages of this fan-favorite animated film. Director Tim Burton had always felt a fascination with holidays, particularly Halloween and Christmas. Little wonder that for one of his major film productions, he chose a theme that combined the two. The Nightmare Before Christmas originated as a poem Burton wrote during his tenure at the Walt Disney Studios, and after showing it to his co-workers, the studio considered it as a stand-alone short theatrical film or television special. However, Burton was fired from Disney in 1984, with the studio retaining the rights to this concept, which was ultimately passed on. Some years later, buoyed by the success of Burton's films like Batman and Beetlejuice, Disney took new interest, and in 1991, pre-production work began on what was now a feature-length film for Disney's Touchstone Pictures. This early storyboard featuring laughing Jack Skellington with a shocked Santa Claus was created by Danish animator/musician Jorgen Klubien, who had worked on Burton's film Pee-wee's Big Adventure. The art is in ink and Conté crayon on paper, matted with an opening of 9.75" x 5.25", and framed with glass for an overall size of 15.25" x 11". The frame is sold as-is. A signed copy of a letter detailing this as created by Mr. Klubien c. 1991-92 is included. Art is in Very Good condition. From the MacLaughlin Family Disney Collection.
