The Lion King Timon Presentation Cel on Production Background (Walt Disney, 1994). "The Monkey's his uncle?" asks a very confused Timon at the 1:09:40 mark of this smash-hit animated feature film that that stands at the apex of Disney's renaissance. It is the highest grossing hand-drawn animated film in the history of cinema with combined profits reaching nearly a billion dollars. It spawned two direct-to-video feature films (a prequel and a sequel), a Saturday morning cartoon series, a major Broadway touring play, and a live-action remake. It's regarded by many as one of the most important films in the history of Disney animation. On February 11, 1995 a special auction titled "The Art of the Lion King" was held in New York. Because there were no production cels used in the making of the film, the sale featured hand-painted presentation cels over original hand-painted production backgrounds and this was lot 213. The presentation cels were hand-painted at the Disney Ink and Paint Department using archived drawings. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece and the closest thing to a Key Master setup one can own from this movie. This image of Timon measures 4" x 5.5" on a 16 field cel with a Disney seal in the lower right. It is over the original gouache and acrylic background painting from sequence 17 scene 8. The piece is matted and framed under Plexiglas with a mat opening of 16" x 11" in a 25" x 20" frame. A Certificate of Authenticity is on back. Condition is Fine. Frame is sold as-is.
