DescriptionThe Lion and the Mouse Background Art Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1943). This cartoon featured the last Super Mouse appearance; with his next short, he becomes Mighty Mouse with the now-familiar yellow and red costume. The story is an update on the old Aesop's Fables tale, with a subtle twist -- in this, the mouse becomes super after drinking from a discarded hard cider bottle! Here are two original 12 field hand-painted production backgrounds from this Mannie Davis-directed short. The first background is numbered 30, showing the mound the Lion hops on when chased by a pack of dogs; see it at the 4:37 mark. The second piece is noted as Sc 48, showing the cider bottle as Super Mouse walks toward it; it can be seen at the 6:06 mark. Condition is Very Good, with handling/edge wear and tape residue in the bottom corners.
