The Green Line and Other Production Background Art Group of 2 (Terrytoons, 1944/c. 1940s). It's an open secret that 1940s Terrytoons shorts boasted some of the most attractive background art in theatrical animation, with some paintings rivaling Disney for their aesthetic beauty. Here are two such 12 field production backgrounds from this important but often neglected studio. The first is from the Mighty Mouse short The Green Line, directed by Eddie Donnelly, and released on 7/7/44. This cobblestone street detail, noted in the upper right as Sc 15, can be seen in online viewings at the 1:45 mark. The second piece is unmarked and unidentified; lack of production or sequence numbers may mean it was never used. If that's the case, it's a real shame, as this is a beautiful nighttime view of farm buildings that would look good in a setup with any number of different cels. Both are painted with gouache/watercolor with airbrushed highlights on skimmed boards. The Green Line background is in Good condition with some minor edge creasing along the left side, while the farmyard scene is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
