The Great Locomotive Chase Civil War Hats and Props Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1956). This Walt Disney Feature live-action film starred Fess Parker at the height of his Davy Crockett fame. It also starred Jeffrey Hunter and Slim Pickens, and was released on 6/8/56. It was the story of an 1862 Civil War Union group's plan to steal a Confederate train and rip up their rail system. Both Peter Ellenshaw and Ub Iwerks worked on this film. This is a pair of original Union and Confederate hats worn in this film. The Union Civil War hat has 7th Regiment badge on it while the Confederate hat has a 4th Regiment pin. Both measure approximately 10" x 7". The lot also has a great pair of Civil War handoff props, used when the Union soldiers are captured at the film's end. Authentic 1950s Walt Disney live-action film props are considered very rare. Both hats show minor wear. Overall Good condition. From the Joe Hale Collection.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
