Description

The Friendly Ghost Pair of Title Card Production Backgrounds Signed by Shane Miller (Famous Studios, 1945). "There are some people who believe in ghosts, and there are some people who don't. If you're the believe-in-ghosts kind, then this story is about one! And if you're the don't-believe-in-ghosts kind, well, just for fun, this story is about one anyway." An exciting find for any fan of the lovable little spirit, presented is a set of two original production backgrounds created for the opening title cards for The Friendly Ghost, the very first Casper cartoon! This monumental theatrical short was directed by I. Sparber and released on 11/16/1945. It was created for Famous Studios' Noveltoon series, and though Casper was meant to be a one-shot character, his success led to a flurry of future appearances in his own animated short film series. He has since become the most iconic ghost character in
children's literature and television. These original background paintings are credited to Shane Miller (credited for "scenics"), whose signature is written at the bottom of each piece. There are rendered masterfully in gouache on board. The 16 field paintings are presented in 21" x 17.5" mats with window sizes of 15.25" x 11.75". Extremely rare title card paintings from the very first Casper cartoon! Minor handling and edge wear, and the condition is Very Good.
