Description
The Friendly Ghost (First Casper Cartoon) Opening Credits Background Art by Shane Miller Group of 2 (Famous Studio, 1945). This historic short unleashed a powerhouse performer in Casper the Friendly Ghost, a character first designed for a children's book. The short opens with three ghostly bearded forms with hoods in the clouds as the credits roll; here are two rare original painted backgrounds for that opening. The first painting with laughing figures in blue, can be seen at about the midway point in the credits, but the image starts out lighter with the three cloud ghosts looking solemn. Our second painting appears to be a transition piece that either is seen very briefly, or perhaps was simply not used in favor of the other two images. Each painting has a very ethereal look, painted with gouache and airbrush on Bristol board. The paintings are matted with approximate openings/overall sizes of 15.75" x 12"/21.5" x 17.5" and 14" x 11"/20" x 16.75". The artboards are in Very Good condition with minor handling and edge wear.From the Mike Glad Museum Collection.
