Description

The Flintstones First Episode Presentation/Storyboard Group of 5 (Hanna-Barbera, 1960). Television history occurred on September 30, 1960, when the first Flintstones episode aired on prime time ABC. That first episode aired was called "The Flintstone Flyer," but prior to that, Joe Barbera shopped around "The Swimming Pool," a story written by Warren Foster. The story concerns Fred and Barney's building of a swimming pool and sharing it on their neighboring properties. Of course, a Stone Age feud ensues! These are the original presentation/storyboards that Joe Barbera himself used to pitch this show (which was still called "The Flagstones" at this point) to networks and sponsors. He wrote extensively about this artwork in his book My Life In Toons -- From Flatbush to Bedrock in Under a Century. This is a set of five 12" x 5" 2-panel presentation boards (larger than usual storyboard drawings), mounted to black backing. They are an amazing sequence numbered #58/59, 60/61, 62/63, 64/65, and 66/67. Each individual panel measures approximately 4" x 5". Fred, Wilma, Barney, and Betty are all represented here. A classic prehistoric telephone sequence is included as well as a prehistoric wheelbarrow. Please note that Joe Barbera (1911 - 2006) has hand-signed panel #59. The script of each character is hand-written under each panel. Done in graphite with slight red pencil highlights. Amazing pieces of animation and television history (not to mention animation auction history!) presented here. There are pinholes in the corners, minor handling wear, and border foxing, otherwise in Fine condition.
