    Description

The Flintstones Fireman Fred Production Cel and Painted Background(Hanna-Barbera, 1961). "Yabba dabba doo!" The original episodes of this show have returned to television with regular viewings on MeTV. Here we have a rare hand-inked hand-painted trimmed Season One production cel of Fred Flintstone in his Joe Rockhead Volunteer Fire Department hat. This is from the first season show entitled "Arthur Quarry's Dance Class," which first aired on 1/13/61. Fred and Barney join the volunteer fire department so they can sneak out each night for dance lessons; the boys want to learn how to properly dance with Wilma and Betty at an upcoming dance/ball. Great full-figure 7" image of Fred in his volunteer fireman helmet while in mid-dance lesson at Arthur Quarry's. The 10" x 8" trimmed cel is on a hand-painted trimmed Flintstones production background from a much later show. The Bedrock-themed background is trimmed to 10" x 10.5," and works perfectly with the cel. First Season Fred Flintstone production cels of this quality are considered very rare. Minor handling wear. Condition is Very Good.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
