The Bullwinkle Show "Coming Up Daisies" RARE Title Sequence Production Background (Jay Ward, c. 1961). There were a couple of title changes to the animated Jay Ward TV series starring Rocky and Bullwinkle, first Rocky and His Friends and then The Bullwinkle Show. They each featured different opening sequences but arguably the best remembered is the one which starts with chaos, lightning, earthquakes, and our two heroes Rocky and Bullwinkle plummeting to earth, only to sprout up under a sunny sky along with a crop of daisies. For fans, there are few images as recognizable as this ending scene from the opening title sequence. Offered in this lot is the original one-of-a-kind hand-painted production background the smiling sun in the cloud-filled sky and mountains that was first shown on The Bullwinkle Show. This title bumper is still shown in some episodes of the syndicated series, now called The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, following the opening "parade" sequence. The art is rendered in gouache on 15" x 10.75 background board with BG E written in graphite along the bottom peghole area. It is an original work by longtime Jay Ward background artist and color stylist Sam Clayberger (1926 - 2018). Very little original art from Jay Ward's early sixties animated shows still exists, so to discover that original art from the defining Rocky and Bullwinkle opening sequence has survived is wonderful for fans. This chance to own it is likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
