The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B Harry and the Sergeant Production Cels Group of 2 (Walter Lantz, 1941). "Where am I, where am I?" asks Hot Breath Harry, after he is taken from a swinging NYC Jazz Club right to the US Army Camp. "Brother, you is in the Army" says his new Sergeant. This is a pair of extremely rare trimmed hand-inked and hand-painted production cels from this Walter Lantz Studio theatrical short that was released on 9/1/41. The Andrews Sisters had a hit with this song, released eight months earlier; they even make a rare cameo appearance in the short. This was one of the first cartoons written by Ben Hardaway, after he left Warner Brothers. Lantz Studios made a handful of political incorrect and insensitive cartoon shorts, but this one has been highly regarded as one of the best Jazz cartoons. It's also considered one of the very first military-themed shorts of the 1940s, predating similar WWII efforts by Disney and others. This is a rare set of production cels from the opening scene when Hot Breath Harry has just arrived in the Army. This scene between him and the Sergeant can be seen around the 1:40 - 1:49 mark. Both cels are framed with Plexiglas; the Sergeant is 5", in a frame measuring 9" x 11", while Harry and his Bugle is 7", in a frame measuring 12" x 15". One of the rarest lots of studio World War II animation artwork we have seen! Fine condition.
