The Black Cauldron Horned King's Spiral Castle Concept Painting by Tim Kirk (Walt Disney, 1985). Tim Kirk was the Senior Designer on Disney's Japanese theme park, Tokyo Disney Seas. He had 13 of his Lord of the Ring illustrations published by Ballantine Books, and he designed a 1975 Tolkien calendar. He has also won five Science Fiction Society HUGO Awards. He was brought in for early development on The Black Cauldron in March of 1981. This an unbelievable study of the Horned King's Spiral Castle, painted in gouache on pan board measuring 30" x 12" with clear acetate over the art. His name is along the bottom border and on the reverse side of the painting. He has signed the painting in the bottom left corner. The unbelievable detail to this painting displays the look this film set out to have early on. Very Good condition. From the Joe Hale Collection.
