The Band Concert Painted Master Production Background (Walt Disney, 1935). The first Mickey Mouse Color Cartoon was released on 2/23/35, and it is still considered as one of Mickey Mouse's greatest moments on film. It was directed by Wilfred Jackson. This is the original Master production background featuring the title card for the song the band is playing as the tornado/storm approaches. It is Rossini's William Tell Overture. The hand-painted 12 field 2-peghole production background can be seen at about the :45 second mark into the short. It is marked with production number UM-32 in bottom border. Initials Dick W are also in bottom border and may be Dick Williams, who worked on this short. Beautifully framed with a mat opening of 10" x 12". Some of the gouache paint has started to fade with a slight dullness in some colors, as this painting is over 80 years old. It is Plexiglas front framed to 23.5" x 21". This is a true piece of Disney History, and is otherwise in Fine condition.

I have done a preliminary analysis and the total of the hammer prices was $67,550. With BP, the final figure was $80,722.25. That is against the total insurance value of $34,785 or 2.32 x ‘pre-auction estimate’. Incredible, really, so a big thanks.
