Description
The Art of Self Defense Goofy Preliminary Title Production Cel on Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1941). "From the earliest dawn of humanity, the cruel unrelenting rule of nature has been and still is the survival of the fittest" says the film's narrator, John McLeish, in this Goofy "How To/Art Of" theatrical cartoon. This short was directed by Jack Kinney and released on 12/26/41. It would be the third in Goofy's "How To" series, after Goofy's Glider and The Art of Skiing (1941's How to Ride a Horse is a segment of the feature film The Reluctant Dragon, and was not released as a stand-alone short until 1950). This was the first Goofy cartoon to use the "replica" Goofys within it as well. If Goofy is your Main Man, this lot is a dream come true! This is the studio preliminary hand-inked, hand-painted 12 field title cel, which includes the studio approval cover sheet. This is a full nitrate cel with the production number 2267 inked on the bottom. The cel is on a preliminary airbrushed Key Master background. Goofy strikes an outstanding 5" pose. The cel is laminated. It is interesting in the final camera-used cel, the lettering is positioned differently, the background spotlight is thinner, and the rag at his waist is deep purple; in the theatrical one sheet, colors for Goofy's clothing have changed completely. Great approval cover sheet with OK's for Design and Lettering, with a box for "Walt's OK". Overall, the cel and Key Master background measure 12" x 10" in this extremely rare setup. Minor handling wear. In Good condition.Auction Info
