    Description

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad Brom Bones Production Cel and Key Master Background (Walt Disney, 1949). "It's a quite peaceful place, and yet somehow, foreboding" say narrator, Bing Crosby at the beginning of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", one of two segments in The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. The film was directed by Clyde Geronimi for theatrical release on 10/5/49 by RKO Radio Pictures. The story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman is based on Washington Irving's classic story of a headless horseman and his Halloween night ride through Sleepy Hollow. In this lot is a terrific piece of animation art from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The setup shows Brom Bones and the Sleepy Hollow boys from Ye Olde Schnooker and Schnapps Shoppe, the local bar. This is a Key Master setup with a hand-inked, hand-painted production cel paired with the matching Key Master background. The production cel was rendered in Cel Vinyl on 16 field acetate. The background was painted using gouache on 16 field size background board. Background painters include; Art Riley, Ray Huffine, Brice Mack, Merle Cox, and Dick Anthony. Production art from this film is considered very rare and hard to find. This piece is a real find! Initially offered in a New York auction on 12/12/96. This was lot number 43. Art is in a mat of 20" x 17.5". Small paint chip and paint separation on the shirt of Brom Bones. Condition is Good.
