DescriptionTarzan Presentation Cel with Key Master Overlay Cel (Walt Disney, 1999 Bouncing baby Tarzan is blithely unaware of the danger he is in as he is tossed from the platform of his jungle treehouse at the 6:38 mark of Disney's Tarzan. Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan of the Apes" book series, it was the first animated Tarzan feature film ever made. It was also the most expensive animated film of its day and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song ("You'll Be in My Heart" by Phil Collins). Considered the last of the Disney Renaissance era, it was filmed without the use of hand-painted cels. In 2000, "The Art of Disney's Tarzan" auction was held in New York City, where original painted production backgrounds were paired with specially-produced hand-painted one-of-one presentation cels. The cels were created at Disney Studio's Ink and Paint Department in Burbank using archived production drawings. Presented here is Part of lot #19 from that sale. The hand-painted image of Tarzan measures 3" x 2.5" on an oversize cel over a Key Master overlay cel of the wood decking. The both cels are presented over a print reproduction of the original background from this scene that originally sold with them. It's an adorable and very large piece of animation art from this modern Disney classic which was so popular that it spawned two direct-to-video sequels. The art is protected under Plexiglas in the original frame from the auction which measures 29.5" x 29" with a mat window of 18.5" x 18". A Certificate of Authenticity from the auction is included. Cel and overlay background are in Fine condition. Frame is sold as-is.
