Description

Symphony Hour Production Background (Walt Disney, 1942). Mickey Mouse reprises his role as a conductor in this hilarious 1942 Mickey Mouse short, Symphony Hour. Here is a fantastic original, hand-painted production background from the short, depicting the office of Sylvester Macaroni (Pete's name in this short). The background can be seen at about the 3:26 mark of the short, as Macaroni prepares to listen to Mickey's orchestra perform. This short was the last new theatrical appearance of Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, and Clara Cluck for over 40 years, until they finally came back on-screen in Mickey's Christmas Carol. The background is created with gouache/watercolor and airbrush on 12.25" x 9.5" background board. There are several studio stamps and notes on the back of the piece, including an OK by "Riley," likely the short's director, Riley Thompson. The background is in Good to Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear including minor scuffing, some staining on edge edges, and pinholes and staple holes in the corners.
