Swing Shift Cinderella "Red Hot" Animation Drawings Sequence of 11 (MGM, 1945). "And now, that fascinatin' little fairy tale fireball, that super-duper little pin-up princess... Swing Shift Cinderella!" Here's a very rare sequence of original 12 field animation roughs of "Red Hot" as Cinderella, from the hand of Preston Blair. The titular character in this Tex Avery-directed short, released on 8/25/45, began as "Red Hot" in the 1943 short Red Hot Riding Hood, as well as several more MGM cartoons like this one plus The Shooting of Dan McGoo, Uncle Tom's Cabana, and Little Rural Riding Hood. Preston Blair (1908 - 1995) began his career in animation with Walter Lantz and Charles Mintz studios in the early 1930s. By the late '30s, he had moved over to Walt Disney, where he animated Mickey Mouse as "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" in Fantasia. Mr. Blair left Disney after the 1941 strike, and was hired by MGM for Tex Avery's unit. "Red Hot" is his best-known MGM character, based loosely on 1940s pin-up queen Lana Turner. In this superb sequence of eleven, Red as Cinderella is going into her "Oh Wolfie" song and dance number (based on the 1917 tune "Oh Johnny, Oh Johnny, Oh!"). You can see the first pose, noted in the lower right as 110, at the 5:11 mark within the short. These are amazing, large images of Red facing left, with figure sizes ranging from 7" to 8.5". The drawings are numbered 110, 116, 616, 618, 620, 622, 624, 626 (two drawings have this number, with near identical poses), 630, and finally one with Red facing right, 692. Most of the 600 numbered drawings include an MGM stamp listing this as from Production 128, and quite a few have timing charts, animator's instructions, even different lip movements added. The art is in graphite, some with red pencil underdrawings. All are on 12 field 3-peghole paper, with four adding a second set of pegholes in the top margin. Drawing 692 has some handling/edge wear with a couple of fold creases, and is in Good condition. The remaining ten drawings have only minor handling, and are in Very Good condition. Okay to wolf-whistle now, guys!Auction Info
