Superman Mad Scientist's Lab Layout Drawing (Max Fleischer, 1941). "The hour has come!" exclaims the Mad Scientist as he gets up to go to his futuristic lab. Here's that lab in a bird's eye view, in an original 16 field "Rendering Guide" layout drawing from the first Fleischer Studios Superman cartoon. Fleischer successfully lobbied for the rights to produce shorts based on this wildly popular comic book creation, edging out Republic Pictures, which had hoped to do a live-action serial featuring the Man of Steel. This first short, sometimes referred to as "The Mad Scientist," was directed by Dave Fleischer, and released to theaters on 9/26/1941. Watch the short online, and you can see this image at the 3:01 mark. Art is in graphite on two conjoined pieces of paper, with an overall image area of 13.25" x 9.5". It's matted with an opening of 15.25" x 12.5", and framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 24" x 23.5" x 1.25". Frame is sold as-is. Art condition is Good with handling wear; insert art is beginning to lift off base art.
