Space Battleship Yamato Production Cel with Painted Background (Group TAC, c. 1974-75). From the influential space opera series Space Battleship Yamato (also known by its American adaptation name Star Blazers), this is an amazing hand-painted original production cel. Directed by the great Leiji Matsumoto of Galaxy Express 999 and Space Pirate Captain Harlock fame, this series' turn toward serious themes and complex storylines influenced several notable works in anime history, including Gundam, Evangelion, and Macross, in addition to video games such as Space Invaders. A spectacular image, it is presented on a beautiful starscape background rendered in gouache on background board. The setup measures an overall 14" x 10.5", and it shows minor handling and edge wear from normal studio use. The cel is numbered A29 in the upper right corner, and the condition is Very Good.
