    Description

Space Ace Promotional Poster Original Art (Don Bluth, 1983). "Space Ace -- Defender of justice, the truth and planet Earth!" is how this arcade game begins. Space Ace premiered in 10/83, just four months after the release of the wildly popular Dragon's Lair and both were animated by Don Bluth, John Pomeroy, Gary Goldman and Rick Dryer. Space Ace featured Dexter, damsel in distress Kimberly and villain, Commander Borf who attacks the earth with his Infanto Ray. It's a little-known fact that director Don Bluth (with the help of some digital modulation) provided the voice of Borf. This sequel to Dragon's Lair enjoyed a brief run as an animated cartoon series and was reformatted for play on home computers and gaming systems. Offered here is the original published artwork for the one-sheet poster promoting the release of Space Ace and it includes the tag line "Play in Your Local Arcade!" It was painted by legendary background artist/illustrator, Ron Dias. (1937 - 2013). During his long career he worked at all the top animation studios such as Walt Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Chuck Jones Productions, Don Bluth Studios and others. He is credited as Art Director/Color Stylist for The Secret of NIMH as well as on Dragon's Lair and Space Ace. The 20" x 26" image is painted in acrylic on 25.5" x 35.5" illustration board with credits on back. This is the original painting of Dexter, Kimberly and Commander Borf for the published poster heralding the release of Space Ace and it's signed by the artist in the lower left. A protective clear acetate film is over the artwork. Minor handling, edge wear, overall condition is Very Good.
